Boris welcomes Waddon's new leisure centre

Boris testing out the shoulder press

Yesterday morning the Waddon team were very proud to welcome the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson to test out what was on offer at the new leisure centre on the Purley Way in Waddon.

In January, the leisure centre was officially opened by Paralympian David Weir CBE, where local residents and school children came together to celebrate this wonderful occasion.

Boris was delighted with the facilities on offer and tested out the shoulder press machine in the gym and also managed to play table tennis or as he calls it 'whiff-whaff'!

He said that he was very proud that the Conservative-run Council delivered on its promise to residents.

Gamechanger for Croydonians

Today, Conservative Mayor Boris Johnson has helped deliver a £1billion investment into Croydon’s shopping centre, a move which will create 5,000 new jobs and regenerate the town centre. This is a joint effort between Croydon Council and investors with building work set to begin in 2015.

This investment from both Westfield and Hammerson will further enhance Croydon’s reputation as a must-visit retail hub, bringing new jobs and opportunities for residents and their families. The influx of visitors will also impact local businesses who will gain from an increased customer flow and restore our town to its formerly glory. Take one look at some of the local Labour Party blogs and Twitter feeds and it’s clear to see how hard they are all working to trash our town’s reputation and present the most negative image of Croydon possible in the public eye. But today’s announcement proves them all wrong, Croydon is and will continue to be one of the most vibrant and exciting places to live and work in the country.

Just take one look at the community spirit shown in response to the riots, take one look at the radical development of our town centre and the celebrations around the Diamond Jubilee. Croydon is a fantastic place to be and the Conservatives will continue to stand up for residents and fight for the issues that matter to them.

Boris Brightens Up Croydon, Again

Yesterday Croydon was once again treated to a visit from London Mayor Boris Johnson, who was on fine form. Since last summer’s riots, the Conservative Council has worked closely with GLA member Steve O'Connell and Gavin Barwell MP to rebuild our town and get things up and running and Boris has been with us every step of the way.

With a slick new haircut and a smile, Boris was looking energetic and excited as he met the crowds of supporters through the town centre. He greeted local shop workers, owners of small businesses and shoppers through the centre and posed for a few family snaps with members of the local community.

As one resident said to me on the tour, “He’s been here many times before.” This is indeed true, as Boris has shown his commitment to our town time and time again, making regular visits and securing unprecedented levels of funding.

As someone who was born in Croydon, it’s heart-warming to see how the Mayor has developed a soft spot for our town. Having such strong support and recognition from the Mayor is an asset to all of us, and four more years of this would be a huge asset to all of us.
